The bailout deal is dead in the water. No amount of persuasion from the President and both democratic and republican leaders could stop the revolt by republican members of the House. For a bill that was so painfully negotiated and agreed upon by the President and leaders of both parties to fail when the entire World was watching - this is something unheard of.
The history was made today. We are going to remember this day for a long time.
Even before the bailout failure, American consumers were nervous to open their morning newspaper fearing yet another bank meltdown. Day after day everyone was getting more and more confused. For instance: the average number of houses for sale in Arlington Heights Illinois is increasing every month since March. Does it mean there are so many great deals for home buyers or, that so few people are willing to make "the jump"?
We are already in the recession. Will unemployment still rise? Are buyers going to be even more scared by what is going on in the financial sector?
Nobody knows answers to these questions. One is certain - we live in interesting times.
